Antique Doctors Saddlebags circa 1870-90.
I call these original bags Doctors saddlebags because of the handles. They of coarse could be used by anybody who wanted the convenience of handles on his bags. These bags are in much better condition than most saddlebags you see from this era. They have all the original unbroken straps and buckles still attached. I have had these bags in my collection for a couple of years. The leather is still pliable enough to use. There are no rips or breaks in the leather and all stitching is sound. They do have a round hole cut in the center. I assume that was done to carry the bags over the saddle horn. Look at the pictures. These bags could be used, and have been treated with a leather dressing. Would be great on an Old West saddle or early Doctors display or show off in your gun room.
