Pond Separate Chamber Revolver, made circa 1864 in Worcester, Massachusetts. This revolver features 6 shots of .32 Rimfire. This was an attempt at circumventing the infamous Rollin White Patent, held by Smith & Wesson from 1857 to 1869. Many tried to copy S&W’s success during this period and were taken to court. Pond was one of those. He lost the patent infringement suit and went back to the drawing board to design something that would be successful in the marketplace. Others, like Moore and Uhlingher faced the same problem. Some, like Colt and Remington, just stuck it out with their percussion firearms until the White Patent finally ran out. You will recognize some of those names and not others, and to a large degree, it was due to this patent. The overall condition is fair. A dark patina resides on the brass frame as well as the iron of the barrel, cylinder and hammer. The markings are legible. Numbers match. The bore is dark with sharp rifling. The original rosewood grips are in good condition. The cylinder axis pin is absent as is one of the characteristic removable sleeves from the cylinder. The action on this revolver is strong. Here is a fascinating look at how successful Smith & Wesson was at defending the Rollin White Patent, changing the landscape of firearms technology and contributing to what S&W is today! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5 inches. Caliber: .32 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
