U.S. Springfield Model “1898” Krag Bolt Action Carbine
Used in the Philippine-American War
Here we present a U.S. Springfield Krag-Jorgenson Bolt Action Carbine, made at the turn of the 20th Century. This would have started out life as a full-length rifle and was subsequently shortened to a carbine format. The receiver is marked “U.S. MODEL 1898. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY.” The stock bears the original government inspector marks “P” in a circle behind the trigger guard and “IJA/1901” in the cartouche. Those initials belonged to Lt. Col. Issac J. Arnold Jr.
The overall condition is very good. The original blue finish is about 65%. The markings are clear. The walnut stock shows period handling and is in very good condition. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic, handy little carbine!
