Description:
ALLEN & WHEELOCK... four-shot. POCKET SIZE FRAME, 34 caliber, generally known as “Revolving Pistols,” or “Rotary Pistols.” Mark Twain in "Roughing It" describes the tendency of the pepperbox is to chain fire: “It was a cheerful weapon the "Allen." Sometimes all its six barrels would go off at once, and then there was no safe place in all the region round about, but behind it.” The engraving is crisp, the nipples are very good, the revolver functions perfectly, the markings are clear and the finish is an uncleaned patina. This is the nicest example I've seen, in years of collecting Allen & Wheelocks's. I purchased this one from Paul Henry for my collection and now someone else can enjoy this great little gem.
