Very rare Oberndorf TypeA sporter.
Original chambering of 6.5X58 Portuguese.
Made in 1927, this is a very clean honest example of a rare yet quite usable Mauser sporter.
Typical TypeA features such as the horn forend tip, one standing - four folding leaf express sight and barrel band sling mount.
Lever floorplate release,
Stippled receiver ring - action never drilled anywhere.
Metal is in wonderful condition with 90% of what I believe is original finish.
All numbers match - action, barrel, bolt, bolt shroud, magazine, floorplate, release lever, cocking piece, bolt release and flag safety.
Bore is about new looking. As good as any small bore Mauser I’ve seen.
The stock has lovely color and figure with various s and bruises - the worst of them on the left of the action area - see photos.
Brass can be made from 30’06 or 7X57 / 8X57 cases.
Overall, a great example of one of the most iconic bolt action sporting rifles ever made.
