Description:

Cuban Captured Spanish Revolver dated 1898. Comes with very interesting provenance. Attached to the holster and belt, is a handwritten description of how the owner at the time, acquired the revolver. The note reads: “Revolver Cal. between .44 S&W and Colt 45. Purchased about July 10, 1898 from a Spanish Lieutenant (P.O.W.) for $2.00 and a pound of Bull Durham Tobacco. Under no…………… do I wish to part with this old weapon. Kindly return the piece to my address. Chas E. Houager”. The signature is in cursive and is difficult to read, and others may have a different opinion of the signature spelling. The revolver is marked “Garate y Anitua, Eibar”. Caliber .44 Russian. This is a version of a Smith & Wesson double action .44 caliber. This is a little tidbit of SpanAm War in Cuban history. Conversations about this revolver and how it came to the owner in 1898 would be endeless!
