Shipping is actual cost with a minimum of $30.00 for pistols and $50.00 for rifles/shotguns to ship to most of the 48 contiguous states. Shipping to Alaska may require an extra fee. The R1 Hunter is Remington’s answer to the Dan Wesson Bruin pistol. Both are long slide 1911s chambered for the classic 10mm Auto, or the 40 Magnum as it is sometimes called. The Hunter is meant for the very purpose its name suggests – hunting game, but it is also for providing the hunter protection against dangerous predators. The 10mm has always had a small dedicated following, but in recent years it had a justifiable increase in popularity, particularly for hunting. While powerful revolvers are available, as a general rule they have a maximum capacity six or seven rounds. Some hunters prefer a higher capacity though and semiautos have a higher capacity. The R1 Hunter carries 8+1 and the famous Glock 40 in 10mm carries 15+1! The advantage of the R1 is that it allows someone used to a 1911 to carry the same style weapon for hunting without having to learn how to use a new model of firearm. It has the added benefit of being less costly than its nearest competitor, the DW Bruin. On top of that, the Hunter also has an under-barrel rail for mounting a light or laser. Sights are a red fiber optic front, and a Bomar-style Para-Ordnance rear. The fiber optic front allows for quick front-sight acquisition and the rear sight allows for windage and elevation adjustment to suit the hunter’s distance from the target. The six-inch barrel allows for better accuracy at long distances. The Hunter comes with an adjustable trigger, which is currently set at a crisp 4-4.5 lbs. The VZ G10 grips have a texture designed to provide the shooter with a firm grip and control over the gun during firing. The gun’s PVD DLC finish is designed to protect the R1 in the worst conditions. The gun comes with two eight-round magazines in the box. This pistol is pre-owned but the lack of residue in the chamber or bore, as well as the tightness of the pistol suggests that it has never been fired outside of the factory test.
