Description:
Sold A beautiful high condition model 53 in the desirable 44wcf (44-40) that was made in 1924 (1st year production). This is a stunning rifle with the 22" round barrel, with 98%+ of the original factory blueing. The receiver has some wear on the belly but the sides and top, upper and lower tangs are 98%+. Serial # 1060 places it in the 1st year of production. All roll markings are clear, crisp...as new. Stocks are also in excellent original oil finish with a steel serrated butt plate and a blued fore end cap. This rifle sports a Lyman 56 receiver peep sight, a Marble rear sight blank and a Redfield front sight with a brass insert post. Bore is excellent, shiny with strong lands and grooves and not a trace of corrosion. The action is slick as glass and locks up tight as a vault, as new. The inside of the action and pivot point on the lever are as crisp and without wear as the rest of this rifle. The model 53 was the lightest, most precision built center fire lever action Winchester ever built and here is a fine original example in 44 wcf that would be hard to upgrade.
