SOLD!!! Spencer Carbine. This is a good original Civil War weapon. It is an original and classic Civil War 7-shot Spencer cavalry carbine. This is the model 1860 which is the correct model for Civil War use. It has interesting serial numbers. This one originally had serial numbers of 15,166 with the last digit being only partially visible. This would put the gun in the range of the guns issued very early with some of them that went to George Armstrong Custer. These numbers are definitely within the Civil War production since they started at 11,000 and went to 61,000 before the war ended. If you notice the gun has been reworked with the number "44" stamped on the parts. The forestock is present with the nice wear from service. You can tell that this one was actually used and didn't just sit an arsenal. The barrel is full-length at 22 inches and it still has nice lands and grooves in the bore rifling. It has the original front sight present. The rear sight has the original base and spring intact as well as the leaf and slide. The top of the frame has theSpencer markings and Boston, Massachusetts production location still partially visible as well as the March 1860 patent date. The action works well on all positions. On the backside of the stock it has the saddle bar and ring present. This, along with the sub-inspector markings, let us know that the gun is a military model instead of the civilian purchased one. The shoulder stock has a good bit of wear as you see in the images. The magazine tube that held the Spencer cartridges is still present in the back and is in nice shape. This one is the correct model 1860 because it was made without the ribs to make it easier to remove that were added on the model 1865. The original sling swivel is still present on the underside of the stock. This is a very attractive looking complete Civil War Spencer 7-shot cavalry carbine that has very early serial numbers.
