Manufactured by Walther in 1942, this all-matching and all-original P-38 comes with a "CWW" coded military hardshell holster also dated 1942, as well as 2 proper original magazines (Eagle-359 proofed). This complete rig was purchased directly from the family of the WW2 vet that brought it home as a war trophy in 1945. The original finish is in good shape overall with some minor honest wear that you would expect from a combat-used handgun that is 76 years old. The majority of the finish wear is concentrated on the front grip strap as well as the high edges from being carried in the holster. The bore in this P-38 is in excellent condition with strong rifling and no pitting. The original "Bakelite" grips are also in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. Everything on this Walther P-38 works 100% like the day it left the factory. The combination safety/decocker works perfectly, and the action on this Walther is smooth and locks up tight. The holster that this P-38 comes in is a nice original piece as well. As mentioned before it is also dated 1942 and was made by the Carl Weiss firm in Braunschweig, Germany, which used the manufacturer code "CWW" and a "WaA392" Waffenamt acceptance proof. It is in great shape with nice tight original stitching, and nice pliable leather. The inside of the lid has two names written in it. One is "Hanlon" and it appears twice in ink; which is the last name of the G.I. who brought it to the States. The original German owner's name is written in pencil just below the slot in the lid and is too faint for us to read entirely. The magazine pouch on the holster contains the extra original magazine. This is a great P-38 rig and is 100% original just as it was issued to the German soldier who carried it. If you have been looking for a nice original P-38 rig to add to your collection, this AC42 rig would be an excellent choice and a wise investment. Original guns and holsters seem to go up in value by the month!
