Description:
A nice example of the early Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector. The Military & Police Model of 1905, also known as the .38 M&P 3rd Model, was built as a square or round (rarely) butt K frame with 5 screws. Barrels of 2”, 4", 5", and 6" were common. Serial numbers ran from 241,704 to 1,000,000 with a total of 758,296 produced circa 1915-1942. This example has the 5" barrel and a square butt. Cylinder length is roughly 1.56". It is interesting to note that the Smith & Wesson catalogue of the time applied the Model 1905 designation to all square butt revolvers and the M1902 designation to all round butt revolvers. This was mainly an internal factory method of reference. As a result, S&W collectors may refer to the M1905 round butt revolvers (38 SPL and 32-20 versions) as M1902s. I have never seen a 1905 in person with so much of the original bluing intact. It almost looks like it left the factory yesterday. There is some holster wear and a light scratch on the barrel. The right side of the recoil plate sows the most wear, which may again be due to holster wear. Otherwise the finish is pristine. The internal mechanisms are still tight and the 1905 still has a good double action pull and a light single-action pull. The grips are original. The bore is in excellent, near-mint condition. This 1905 would make a nice addition to any S&W fan’s collection.
