REMINGTON No. 5 Rolling Block Rifle 7x57mm Mauser
With Weaver K2.5 Scope
Here we present a Remington No. 5 Rolling Block Military Rifle in 7x57mm Mauser, made circa 1902 in Ilion, New York. The Model 1902 was the result of the Remington Arms Company seeing its best-selling military arm falling into obsolescence following the advent and adoption of the smokeless powder cartridge world-wide. Its main competitors were repeating rifles such as Lebel and Mauser, but Remington was still able to extend the life of this antiquated, single-shot rolling block rifle for about another 20 years, especially in Latin America, where less expensive single shots were proven and sufficient.
The top of the frame is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO./ILION N.Y. U.S.A./PATENTED OCTR. 22ND 1902”. The top of the barrel has “CAL .7MM”. This military rifle has been abbreviated and a Weaver K2.5 scope mounted with Weaver rings. This rifle also features a brown leather sling marked “BRAUER BROS. MFG. CO. ST. LOUIS MO.”
The overall condition is very good or better. The case colors on the frame are vibrant. The original blue finish on the barrel is about 90%. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is smooth and solid with light handling marks. The bore is fine and sharply rifled. The action is excellent. Here is a very neat and handy Rolling Block Rifle in 7mm Mauser!
