This was made before the American Civil War. Colt continued to be very successful with this line of revolvers all the way up until Smith & Wesson’s grip was loosened by the expiration of the Rollin White Patent for the bored through cylinder. Some of these were either converted or made originally in the factory to handle cartridges, but this one remains in percussion. It did a fine job as a self-defense handgun for the average citizen in 19th Century America. The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are a gray patina with blue in protected areas. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match, including the wedge and loading lever. The grip is smooth and shows period wear from carry. The bore is in good shape.
