Very fine all original example with 20” barrel chambered for the .50 RF Spencer cartridge. Matching numbers in the 5xxx serial range. Top of frame stamped with March 6, 1860 patent date and “SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE/BY BURNSIDE RIFLE CO”. Barrel stamped at breech with U.S. Govt. Inspector’s stamp “F.C.S.”. Excellent old patina mixed with blue on metal and stock and forend with the patinated original finish. Working order and very good bore. Stabler Cutoff in working order. Excellent screws and original sights. Type carried by many Cavalry Regiments in the West after the Civil War. Custer’s 7th were armed with the Spencer prior to issue of the 1873 Springfield.
