This is a unique piece of WW2 German Military history. This WW2 German dress bayonet or "walking out" bayonet was made by Richard Herder in Solingen, Germany. This is a personalized piece formerly owned by a soldier in the 1st Panzer (tank) Regiment of the German Army (Heer) that was based out of Erfurt Germany. The blade is acid etched in German with the phrase "For Rememberance To My Serving Time At The Panzer Regiment #1 Erfurt". While WW2 German drwess bayonets are fairly common, personalized or etched variations are quite scarce. At a time when money was usually very tight for the average German soldier, these etched models were a lot more expensive than the standard models and very few people had the means to purchase them. The fact that this bayonet is directly linked to the feared and respected 1st Panzer Brigade of the German Army makes this dress bayonet quite the find and very desirable. This bayonet is 100% original and in good overall condition. It is complete with the scabbard, red felt plug in the lug recess, and still has the original leather buffer pad in place.
