Description:
Fox A Grade 20 Gauge SxS Shotgun
28” KRUPP BARRELS, 3 WEIGHT, ENGLISH STOCK 15 ¼”

General Specs: Fox, Year 1913, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, SxS
Serial Number: 200181

Ansley H. Fox came out with what most believe to be the best proportioned 20ga. gun made in America late in 1912 when they announced the availability of their new 16 and 20-gauge guns, both made on a 20 gauge frame.  The first full year of production was 1913 and the serial number range began at 200,000.  The early A Grade pattern was a simple scroll pattern in English style.  The first hundred or so small bore graded Fox guns got early A style engraving, and then came William Gough in 1913 and changed it all to the more familiar deep vine and foliate Late A Grade engraving.  This gun, sn200181 made in 1913 is one of a small handful of 20ga. A Grade Fox guns you will ever see with early A engraving.  Most Fox enthusiasts are aware that the early guns seemed to be made with a little more care than the later guns, with smooth polished parts and a better fit and finish in general than the later guns.  You will notice these features on this gun, weighing 6lbs. 3oz. and nicely balanced with its #3wt barrels.  The factory records show this gun shipped with a hard-to-find English style stock.  The gun has been expertly restocked with nicely figured walnut with a LONG LOP OF 15 ¼” to a checkered butt, and the English straight hand stock.  If you are a tall guy this is your gun!  The wood to metal fit is perfect as is the checkering.   THIS IS A VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning it has been stripped, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, and reassembled and carries a 90-day shooting warranty, ready for another several decades of use with no issues.  This little Fox retains 25% original case color and 90% original blue, excellent bores, screws are excellent and the chambers have been lengthened to 2 ¾” and the forcing cones extended to 1 ½” tapers, making this a soft shooting gun with excellent patterns.  Everything is tight as new.  Keep in mind that the cost to restock this gun was in the range of $3000!  It is ready to go for those that need the LONG LOP.  For the avid upland game chaser/target crusher that loves the romance of the vintage side by side, this is a nicely balanced, lightweight, well-made gun that will appreciate in value as you enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking and don’t hesitate, as this gun will go fast.
