Description:
L.C. Smith 5E 20 Gauge Side-by-Side
RARE!, 1 OF 21 MADE, 30” BARRELS, STUNNING GUN!

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1912, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 1oz, SxS
Serial Number: 6810E

Vintage American double gunners recognize L.C. Smith guns built before 1913 as the best of their kind, with more attention to detail, better stock inletting, and even nicer engraving than the named models that came post 1913.  Few high grades were made, with only 525 Grade 5 guns produced all gauges, ONLY 21 MADE IN 20GA, AND ONLY 8 OF THOSE WITH 30” BARRELS.  This gun, sn6810e made in 1912, is a perfect example of how beautiful these guns were and still are.  The detail in the dogs, the scroll work, the background scenery are all superbly done and undoubtedly my favorite American engraving ever.  What a gorgeous gun, with 30" barrels choked F/F (use spreader loads for more open choking, or we can alter chokes in our shop within 2 weeks of purchase), weighing 6lbs. and balanced perfectly in hand, great bores, highly figured French walnut, and lots of factory original case color remaining on the receiver.  Mechanically perfect with strong well-timed ejectors, single selective trigger that performs flawlessly, barrels tight on hinge and breech face like a new gun with the lever still well right of center, she is ready for another century of service and enjoyment.  When considering upland game, doves, pigeons, or clay targets, this gun is ready for all.  Collector interest in L.C. Smith has become brisk, with prices rising and creating a great investment opportunity.  Consider what a Parker Grade 5, or BHE, 20ga. would cost in this condition (over $30,000) and you realize what a bargain this is.  I consider the Grade 5 Elsie to be one of the most beautiful of the American doubles, no matter what the cost.  Just look at the detail in the dog's features, the intricate scroll and bouquet engraving throughout, and the gorgeous borders.  Check out the wood to metal fit, screws, checkering...what a nice 105 year old gun!  Grade 5's don't come up for sale very often, so don't miss your opportunity!
