Description:
The classic Remington 870 is one of the most popular pump-action shotguns ever manufactured and is also one of the most produced shotguns in history, with between three to four million produced. Even now, it is still produced in small numbers. It was introduced in 1950 to replace the Model 31 and was an immediate hit. By 2009, the 10 millionth 870 had been produced. Using the Remington barrel date code, the two letters on the barrel closest to the receiver indicate the month and year of manufacture. The number indicates the assembly number. Remington temporarily ceased stamping the barrels between 1999 and 2001. The 870 presented here does not have a barrel date code, so it is likely it was produced in one of those three years. There is currently a plug in the magazine tube which reduces the magazine capacity to two in the tube and one in the chamber, leaving no doubt as to what sport this Remington has been used for over the years. Naturally, removing the plug will bring the capacity back to the original 4+1. There are a few signs of wear and usage on the surface. While none of these are noteworthy, they are shown in the pictures above for the viewer’s convenience. The bore is in excellent condition. It is shiny and smooth, with no rust or pitting. Internally, the action and bolt are in just as good a condition as the bore. The 870 comes with a spare 20” rifled slug barrel with rifle sights, a useful set up for hunting deer. Both barrels are chambered for 3” shells and will also shoot 2.75” shells. Standard full and modified chokes are provided as well as the famed Undertaker choke. The Undertaker is used for turkey hunting and is labeled as a “super full” choke. It is designed to provide consistency up to 90 percent at 40 yards. It is recommended that the shooter use shot sizes 4, 5, or 6 with lead and copper plated lead shot only. Unfortunately, there is no box. The Remington 870 is one of the most prolific shotguns is firearms history, and they have served their owners well since its introduction in 1950.
