According to research, the prefix HS was added in 1932 and indicate that the rifle was approved for high speed ammo making this rifle manufactured between 1932 & 1936. The * indicated an exceptionally outstanding near perfect example as it left the factory, the early model 39 all came with a 24" octagon barrel and model 97 style lever
