Identified Merrill Civil War Carbine to Private Perry Lageston. Good example of a Merrill carbine with all markings visible. Metal has a gray patina. This gun was issued to Private Perry Lageston in Company A of the 7th Indiana Volunteer Cavalry. Private Lageston is described as 5’10”, sandy complected with hazel eyes and red hair. This unit was all over and participated in skirmishes from Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas. Accompanying this gun is a letter signed by Frank Mallory of Springfield Research Service detailing where he found the records on this gun being issued to Private Lageston. Very neat identified Merrill Carbine.
