About Us: Joe Salter has been in the Antique and Collector Weapons business for 60 years as both a collector and dealer. Description:
NSN, 10 Bore, 32" octagonal breech barrel with a very good, lightly freckled bore. This is a handsome gun that has a tight, original twist pattern still visible along the barrel, and an engraved sunburst pattern on the top that blends with the tip of the top breech flat on which the maker is engraved: “JOHN ANDERSON / MAKER / MALTON". The barrel is rather simply embellished, but does have excellent British scrollwork engraving on the breech, bolster, and tang. The “J. ANDERSON" marked lock is nicely engraved with the same tight floral scroll, as is the hammer. The dark brown walnut stock has a very old added varnish with scattered small handling marks and bruises and is fastened by a single wedge with figure-8 escutcheons. There is light engraving on the trigger guard that has old, dried varnish along the exterior, and a pineapple finial. The checkering is still strong and the buttstock has a few very minor handling marks and blemishes while the lightly freckled buttplate has some minor pitting. Some marks in the varnish on the left side opposite the lock make it appear that it came in contact with cloth before it had fully dried. The gun was never built to hold a ramrod (presumably the ramrod was housed in the no longer present case). The owner's notes explain that the gun was the property of his father, PC John Anderson, WR Yorkshire Constabulary (no relation to the maker), and that he had acquired it around 1950. They had even traveled to the Anderson gunshop in Malton on family holiday, and that it was still a going concern around 1980. This is a handsome gun in fine condition and would make an excellent addition to any collection. Antique
