This is a nice example of a later production Ethan Allen rimfire pistol manufactured in Worchester Massachusetts. These single shot "Side Swing" pistols were in production from about 1865 to 1871. Production of these marked with "Allen's Patent March 7, 1865" ceased after Allen's death in 1871. This pistol has some interesting character with 4 tally marks carved into the left grip panel. The markings on the side of the pistol are mostly worn smooth but they said "E. Allen & Co. Worchester Mass." The action swings out smoothly and the hammer cocks back into the firing position and extractor slides out cleanly. Pistol appears functional. This pistol was intended for a black powder .22 short cartridge and is not for use with modern smokeless .22 short ammunition.
