The Magnum 20 Gauge A5 was introduced in 1967 and Belgian production was discontinued in 1977. Unlike the Lightweight 20 gauge model, the Magnum A5 Model was able to fire the 3" inch magnum shells which was a sought-after feature for duck and pheasant hunters in particular. This example was manufactured in 1970, and is equipped with a 28" inch (27.5) ventilated rib barrel that is choked "Full". The original factory gloss blue finish on this Magnum A5 is still very attractive with a nice luster, rating 95% plus. Most of the minor visible finish wear is on the high edges and on the bottom of the receiver at the natural balance/carry point. The original gold finish on the trigger is in excellent condition. The bore is superb in this A5; there is no pitting, dents, bulges, or imperfections of any kind. The original factory stock set is in great shape overall, with no cracks, repairs, or damage outside of some minor handling marks. The checkering still looks good on both the forearm and buttstock. The buttstock has had a Pachmayer recoil pad installed that pulls 13.5" inches to the end of the pad. This length is the most common on Magnum models as they are typically slightly shorter to accomodate heavy clothes worn during the cold months of duck, goose, and pheasant seasons. Everything on this Magnum A5 works 100% like it did the day this shotgun left the factory. The action is smooth and locks up perfectly, and the trigger, safety, and magazine cut-off all function properly. It is obvious that this shotgun has been well-cared for and never neglected. It has been over 40 years since the Browning Auto 5s have been made in Belgium, and 20 years since production was discontinued in Japan, yet the Browning A5 is still one of the most recognized and collected shotguns in the world. If you have been looking for a good 20 gauge example for your collection this Magnum model would be an excellent choice.
