Antique S&W .38 DA Revolver in NICKEL & PEARL
Made Circa 1882 for Self-Defense
Here we present an antique Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action Second Model Revolver with Pearl Grips, made circa 1882 in Springfield, Massachusetts. This revolver is chambered for 5 shots of .38 S&W and was S&W’s first double action revolver in .38 caliber. It was designed to be self-defense tool and was very popular in its day. This one is finished in nickel plate with handsome mother-of-pearl grips.
The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS. U.S.A. PAT’D JAN. 17&24, ‘65/JULY 11, ‘65AUC. 24, ’89, JULY 25, ’71, DEC. 2, ’79, MAY 11 & 25, 1880”.
The overall condition is fine. The original nickel finish is about 80%. The blue on the trigger guard is about 35%. The case colors are still vibrant on the hammer and trigger. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The mother-of-pearl grips are in great shape with great color and show minor handling marks. The bore is sharp and shiny. The action is excellent and crisp in both single and double action. Here is a fantastic 19th Century Smith & Wesson revolver!
