UNUSUAL AND SCARCE SHORTER THAN STANDARD BARREL OFFICERS MODEL .38 SPECIAL WITH 5" BARREL, MADE 1920. This one turned up here in Montana. Many of the Officers Model Colts with shorter than standard 6" barrels were ordered by law enforcement departments where it was thought shorter barrel revolvers were easier to holster and deal with in cars. This example shows wear to the matching numbered grips (typical of guns that were carried a lot) and back strap. The frame and cylinder retain most of the deep blue as does the barrel which has the normal wear on each side of the muzzle. Correct adjustable sights, checkered back strap and trigger, very tight action and lock-up, bright bore, exc. markings including the rampant colt on the frame, exc. fire blue on the hammer back and trigger. probably carried a lot and shot little. A seldom seen variation.
