Description:
When the Vaquero was introduced, it was built around the large Blackhawk frame. This made them strong but at the cost of being a tad larger than the average Colt replica revolvers which the Vaquero was intended to compete with in the Cowboy Action Shooting market. Even so, the Old Vaquero was popular amongst Cowboy Action Shooters and Ruger enthusiasts. The Bisley version was particularly popular for the same reason that the original Colt Bisley and replica Bisley’s are popular, the grip style allowing for accurate fire and a comfortable shooting experience. Eventually, Ruger produced the New Vaquero which was built on the smaller XR3 frame similar in size to the Colt’s and their replicas. Their lighter weight made them easier to carry but it must be remembered they are not capable of handling the heavier loads the Blackhawks and Old Vaqueros can take, particularly those chambered for the .45 Colt. Even now, the Old Vaquero is still popular, so much that the Ruger still produces certain models of the Old Vaquero on occasion. The Vaquero Bisley here is in excellent condition and appears to have seen little use. The front of the cylinder is clean, and the barrel is virtually spotless with respect to powder residue. There is a small scratch on the bottom of the barrel. The original owner has informed us that the mother of pearl grips are the original grips for the gun. He purchased the spare Ruger medallion grips after a friend jokingly referred to the pistol as a “pimp gun”. In the end, the owner left the original grips on the firearm. The Vaquero looks beautiful with them. The front sight has some red paint residue, presumably having been painted to picking up the sights easier. A trigger job has been performed and the trigger pull is sweet and smooth. If you are interested in old Rugers or a looking to get into Cowboy Action Shooting, the Old Vaquero Bisley is a fine choice.
