Description:
Sold Pending Funds - Offered is a 1940 Colt Officers Model Target .38 Special SN 646908 with the seldom encountered 7 ½” barrel.  In addition, this is one of the rare "Battle of Britain" guns, as it was sent to Winchester for export to the British Purchasing Commission in rushed anticipation of a German invasion.

This is in excellent example that exhibits crisp, clear British Proof Marks, yet made it back to the United States in this remarkable condition.  The action is crisp, the lock up is tight, the bolt drips ½ way into the grooves on all 6, and the bore is bright and shiny.  The original stocks are beautiful.  There are some collector type marks, as well as some markings as it made its way through British importation and inventorying, the most noticeable of which are a thin vertical line forward of the trigger pin, behind the cylinder removal screws on the right hand side of the frame, and a fine pinprick marring on the crane.  There is also a bit of freckling around the end of the barrel.  Please view the photos here for the purpose of evaluating the condition for yourself.  This item qualifies as a C&R.

Included in the sale will be the factory letter.
To make an amazing package, included in the sale is an original, vintage publication issued by the British Ministry of Information on behalf of the Air Ministry detailing the Battle of Britain.  Also included is a superb ORIGINAL 1938 1:100000 German Flidgerkarte (Pilot Map) as used by both Fighter Pilots and Bomber crews for navigation.  The map is titled "Middlesbrough - Karte von England und Wales", and measures a VERY NICE 29" x 40" size.  All fit for a museum presentation.

No International or California sales.
