Description:
The Colt Camp Perry  (produced from 1926 to 1941) is a double action frame fitted with a single shot flat block and barrel unit in place of a cylinder, and was intended for slow fire match competition. Total production of the Camp Perry model was 2488, only available in 22LR, and originally offered with a 10” barrel. In 1934 the barrel was shortened to 8” and the action was altered to give a shorter, faster hammer fall. Colt records indicate only 375 of the 8” version were produced.

This 8 inch set (serial number 2465 & 2470) left the factory as a “matched pair” under Colt Factory Order #7981. They were each furnished with a 2.5 lb trigger pull and sent directly to W.J. Ogg “Loan Account, Colt’s National Matches, Camp Perry, Ohio” on August 11, 1938.

According to the Archive Letter, each gun was then returned to the factory (one on 9/28/38 and the other on 11/17/38). The set was then slit up with serial number 2465 shipping to the original recipient W.J. Ogg in Carey, Ohio on 10/24/38 and serial number 2470 shipping to J.E. Basset Company in New Haven, Connecticut on 1/17/39.

“Jump” ahead 77 years to January of 2016 when I discovered the pair reunited and displayed in a custom hand crafted Huey leather carrying case.  The case is in excellent condition with some exterior leather staining. This is from the Huey : “The finest gun cases in the world, made to the exacting standards of the world’s finest gun owners. A Huey gun case is custom made from the frame up to the customer’s exact wishes and specifications. It is then serially numbered and registered to the original owner with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. Our reputation rests on each of the 40-50 cases we build every year and we feel that none finer is available anywhere.  We have built cases for presidents, kings, princes, and celebrities of every sort and our favorite customer is always the discerning, passionate gun owner.”

These Colts have been on an amazing journey and have somehow ended up back together again in exceptional original condition. Serial number 2465 shows virtually no wear and I would estimate its over-all condition at approximately 98%. I believe serial number 2470 was shot and handled a bit more. It shows some minor bluing loss on the end of the barrel and very light high edge frame wear. The over-all condition on this gun rates about 96%. Grips on both guns are like new. The 2.5lb trigger pull on each gun is AMAZING. Here is an incredible opportunity to add this unique pair of truly “rare” Pre-War Colt firearms to your own personal collection. Original Camp Perry wooden cartridge box and Colt Archive Letters are included. Offered at $9,950 shipped.

Possible trade interest would be a boxed & lettered "Fitz" Detective Special...
