Description: Used. This rifle is an improved version of the Springfield 1922 M1 training rifle. The M1922 M2 included a better magazine, ejector, and knurled cocking piece. Training rifles such as these were meant to mimic the weight, fit and function of the M1903 Springfield rifle. These M2 rifles were designed/improved upon by John C. Garand, the same inventor of the standard M1 Garand service rifle. The M2 entered production in 1934 and this lasted until 1942 when war needs outweighed the cost and time to produce this training rifle. Approximately 20,000 of these were produced in that time; this one being produced relatively early with a 4 digit serial number. The cartouche on the left side of the stock appears to be a Springfield Armory rebuild marking; S.A. with a R below in a box with open bottom. This rifle is in excellent shape and would make an excellent target rifle or collectors piece. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: Barrel Manufactured October 1938.
