Description:

SCARCE, EXCELLENT Rohm GmbH RG23 .22 LR Revolver

As New with Original Box and Papers

Here we present a German/American Rohm GmbH RG23 Revolver with the Original Box, manufactured circa the 1970s. After World War II ended, this company made very inexpensive firearms for export to the United States. With the passage of the 1968 Gun Control Act in the United States, these weapons were prohibited until the company set up shop in Miami, Florida, assembling the revolvers from parts, many of which still came from West Germany. The company ceased making firearms in the 1980s, but has remained somewhat infamous for their “Saturday Night Special” quality as well as the use of their Model RG14 in the hands of John Hinckley Jr. as he attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in Washington D.C. on March 30, 1981. Perhaps most interesting are the lawsuits that followed as a result of the shooting. RG Industries and Rohm GmbH were both sued for making “an inherently dangerous product”. Basically, the argument ran that they were so inexpensive and low-quality that no one but criminals would ever buy them. The suits were thrown out and created an important and long-standing legal precedent in the United States.

The left side of the frame is marked “MOD. RG 23/CAL. .22 LR/RG. IND./MIAMI, FLA.” The grips each bear the trademark “RG”.

The overall condition is excellent. The original finish is nearly 100% complete. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in excellent condition showing no wear. The bore is clear and bright. The action on this revolver is strong.

This is considered a Modern Firearm and will need to be sent to an FFL.

Barrel is 3-3/8 inches.
