ERFURT Double Dated 1917/1920 LUGER Army Pistol
WWI Dated Reworked for Army Use in Weimar Germany
Here we present an Imperial German Military P.08 Luger Pistol, made in 1917 at the Royal Arsenal at Erfurt. These were made for the Imperial German Army and were used in the bitter fighting of trench warfare of the Great War. This specimen is dated “1920/1917” on the chamber, meaning that it was taken back into inventory after World War I and reissued to the Army. It is quite likely that this pistol was on a soldier’s belt during World War II.
This Luger Pistol bears the maker’s mark of Erfurt on the toggle. It is serial numbered in the German military style with numbers on nearly every part. Imperial German military proof and acceptance marks are located throughout, but especially on the front right side of the receiver.
The overall condition is very good. The original finish is 85%. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match, with the exception of the grips. The bore is excellent, bright with sharp rifling. The action is excellent.
