Description:

NICE WWI/Weimar/WWII Double Date P.08 Luger Pistol

Dated “1916” & “1920” Army Rework Post-WWI

Here we present a very nice DWM Double Dated Army Rework, made by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken in Berlin in 1916. These were made for the Imperial German Army and were used in the bitter fighting of trench warfare of the Great War. They would come home with the troops to Germany upon the signing of the Armistice of Compiègne. A year after the treaty of Versailles officially ended the war, the new German government, known as the Weimar Republic, enacted a law to “buy back” these weapons as a first step in a series of moves to disarm German citizens. This is where the “1920” date comes from. One of the next steps to disarmament was registration, which later aided confiscation. The rise of the Nazis was at hand, and the world was on the downhill slope toward global warfare again.

This specimen is marked “1920” and “1916” on the top of the chamber. The toggle is marked “DWM”. The right side of the gun is bears proof and acceptance marks. The barrel and toggle bear firing proofs. Virtually all parts are serial numbered. All numbers internal and external, with the exception of the magazine base, match. The backstrap has a stock lug.

Georg Luger was the inventor and the namesake of this very successful pistol. His design would be especially successful throughout World War I & World War II. These pistols had and still have a reputation of being of utter quality and quite expensive to produce.

The overall condition is excellent. The blue finish is about 90%. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match, including the grips, but excluding the magazine base. The grips are in very good condition. The bore is clean with strong rifling. The action is excellent. Here is a very desirable Luger that is a great talking piece about the dangers of a disarmed citizenry.

Barrel is 4 inches.
