Description:

Iconic WWII German Mauser G Date S 42 LUGER Pistol

World War II Pistol Dated 1935 in Violation of Treaty

Here we present a Mauser G Dated S/42 Mauser Luger Pistol, made in 1935. In 1933, Hitler was in power and rebuilding the German military and rearming them in earnest. Germany was intentionally violating the Treaty of Versailles, but trying to do it quietly. As a result, each of the manufacturers was given a code name and letter designations stood for the year in case they were to fall into the wrong hands. These went on to be used to the end of World War II by the German military.

The chamber is marked “G”, which dates the make of this pistol to 1935. The toggle is marked “S/42”, which was Mauser’s secret maker code. The right side of the receiver is marked with the early “I-Beam” military acceptance marks. The proof mark is a droop-winged eagle. The holster is marked “Karl Barth Waldbröl” and dated “1939” with an eagle waffenamt in between. Inside the holster is a “byf 41” marked takedown tool.

The overall condition is very good. The metal has been refinished. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match, with the exception that the neither the grips nor the magazine are numbered. The walnut grips are sharply checkered with a little rounding at the bottom. The bore is sharp and clean. The action is excellent. The holster is in very nice condition. Here is a great example of a Luger pistol and holster that would have been made just prior to the instigation of World War II!
