Description:
Built in 1951, this pistol is a late model type VIII Red Eagle Standard. It incorporates the last of the transitional features such as the rounded ejection port and the large rear sight notch. Before this time the ejection port was square and the rear sight notch was small on the Standard and larger on the Mark 1 models to accommodate the target sight for the Mark 1. The later ejection ports were changed from square to oval on all models. After Alexander Sturm passed away in 1951, the Red Eagle designation was changed to Black Eagle on later models. The Red Eagle Standard and Mark 1 pistols are very desirable on the collector market for this reason.
