Antique Civil War C. Sharps New Model 1859 carbine. 52 cal. one of the ones that did not get reworked for metal cartradiges in 1873. Sight and side plate stamped R. S. Lawrence patent 1859. Right side stamp C Sharps patent 1852. Left side C. Sharps patent 1848. Serial numbers match , on top tang and also on bottom of barrel under the stock. 51997. Barrel is 21 1/2 inches long. Great clean bore with six very good deep grooves. One small spot of minor pitting in bore. There is a crack in the right fore stock. Fore stock has a small chip on the left side just in front of the breech. Some has carved 5 notches in this area. Has saddle ring bar but ring is missing. Mechanically excellent, Very tight smooth works and hard strong spring.
