Description:
This is a beautiful very lightly used Cooper Model 21 Varminter single-shot bolt action rifle chambered in the popular .223 Remington cartridge.  This rifle was over $2500 dollars when new and remains in excellent condition overall.  Cooper Arms is a highly respected American gunmaking firm located in Montana known for making beautiful rifles with a high degree of fit and finish that are extremely accurate.  The Varminter model uses a Model 21 action which is a small and trim short action.  This model features a stainless steel 24" inch straight-taper Wilson Arms match grade barrel with a 1 in 12" twist rate, a matte blue finish on the action and other metal parts, and an "AA" grade Claro Walnut stock with hand cut checkering and a hand-rubbed oil finish with a factory Pachmayer recoil pad.  Sling swivel studs were a standard no-cost option that were not installed on this rifle.  This Model 21 Varminter has a special order matte-blued pistol grip cap as an added option.  Other than a few very small handling marks on the stock of this Cooper it appears in excellent original condition.  The matte blue factory finish rates 98% plus with no marring or finish wear visible.  The stainless steel barrel is also like-new.  The bore is minty and bright, with sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no pitting or erosion visible.  The bolt which features 3 locking lugs at the face and left polished "in the white", is equally as nice as the rest of the gun and is serial numbered to the rifle.  The AA grade Claro Walnut stock is quite attractive on this Cooper with lots of contrasting grain and figure showing.  It is free from cracks, repairs, or chipping.  The hand-cut checkering is still sharp and crisp, and the hand-applied oil finish gives the stock the appearance of 3-D depth even on the flat or nearly-flat areas.  The stock shows some very minor handling/storage marks in a couple of spots but nothing that stands out without looking closely.  The worst spot is just ahead of the checkering on the left side of the stock below the rear of the bolt.  It is two small dents together that measure 3/16ths wide by 3/4ths of an inch long total.  They are very shallow and do not break the grain in the wood, so they could be steamed out with ease if the new owner so chooses.  This "varmint" style stock has graceful lines with a wide forearm area and a thin wrist, and the special order pistol grip cap was a perfect touch.  The factory black Pachmayer recoil pad is perfectly fit to the stock and is in excellent condition, still tight to the wood.  The action on this Model 21 Varminter is smooth and locks up tight, something Cooper Arms is well known for.  All of the controls on this rifle work 100% like the day it left the factory.  The trigger on this rifle is exceptional.  It breaks like a glass rod with no grit or slop whatsoever.  This Cooper rifle comes with a set of the "old style" Warne 1" rings and bases already installed.  In our opinion these rings and bases from Warne are some of the finest ever made, and certainly some of the cleanest and best looking Warne ever designed.  All this rifle needs is a nice high quality scope mounted up and it would be ready for some serious target shooting or varmint hunting.  It is guaranteed by Cooper Arms to be a very accurate rifle with the right ammo and a good scope that holds zero. The famous "Cooper Arms 1/2" inch guarantee at 100 yards" began in 1998 with this very model, the Model 21 Varminter!  If you have been looking for a high-end, high quality, classy and attractive varmint/target rifle for your collection, this is it.  The new owner can be proud to carry this rifle into any shooting range or hunting camp in the world, and you don't have to tell anyone you got it for half the price of a new one!
