RARE FACTORY CASED MAYNARD FIRST MODEL PERCUSSION CARBINE W/ EXTRA BARRELS AND ACCESSORIES CIRCA 1859. Two 20 inch rifled carbine barrels in .35 and .50 caliber and a 26 inch 20 gauge shotgun barrel. Original factory case with large assortment of accessories. Serial number in the 4,xxx range and all original and matching. Exceptional condition with barrels retaining about all the original blue and the frame with mottled case hardening. Stock with all the finish. Perfect working order and bores near mint. Oak case with old age crack in lid and escutcheon missing. Original lining in excellent condition as are all the accessories. Dr. Edward Maynard, the inventor, is known to have given cased sets such as this as promotional gifts to influential Federal and State officials in hopes of obtaining orders in the build up to the Civil War. States that ordered were nearly all Confederate including Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi. Exceptional and with excellent collection provenance.
