1876 2ND. MODEL OCTAGON RIFLE IN .45-60 CALIBER, SERIAL NUMBER 11XXX, MADE 1880. This is a really nice unfooled with 1876 that spent its life in Colorado. A great “attic condition” rifle that nobody has tried to clean or improve. It still shows nice aged blue on the receiver with brighter blue in the protected areas around the side plates, loading gate etc. Aged and thinning barrel blue that is mixing with natural brown, mag tube also plum and brown. Exc. markings, original dust cover intact. Has the desirable sporting ladder rear sight with slide intact that is marked “1876” and the original Winchester small blade front sight. Exc. barrel and upper tang markings. Exc. butt stock shows only normal handling/hunting marks with no cracks or chips and very tight wood to metal fit. The forend shows honest saddle wear ahead of the receiver (I really like to see that!) and also shows normal handling with good wood to metal fit. Tight action and mellow uncleaned brass lifter engraved “45-60.” The bore is surprisingly fine and only a little dark with exc. rifling all the way through. Some scrubbing out ought to bring it to about exc! Exc. screws. I like everything about this rifle!
