Long Barrel, Pearl Grips and Original IJ Holster!
Here we present an excellent Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle Works Safety Automatic Revolver in .22 LR, made circa 1900 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Iver Johnson & Martin Bye both cut their teeth with Ethan Allen, then started their own company in 1871. The company continued to operate until 1993.
Goforth states that “Among all the Safety Automatic revolvers manufactured the .22 Rimfire is one of the rarest.” This revolver was intended for walking in the woods or target practice. The long, 6-inch barrel gives it good sight radius and more velocity than a shorter barrel, and it certainly makes it less concealable. Never mind that though, this one comes in its original Iver Johnson Co. Boston brown leather flap holster, perfect for those wood walks. This one is finished in nickel with gorgeous case colors on the hammer and trigger and a blued trigger guard. The original mother of pearl grips are the cherry on top. The top of the barrel is marked “IVER JOHNSON ARMS & CYCLE WORKS/FITCHBURG, MASS. U.S.A.” The bottom of the grip frame is marked “PAT. AUG. 25. 96./PAT’S PENDING”. The serial number is very early in the series at “121” with no prefix. All numbers match and this is an immaculate revolver.
The overall condition is excellent. The original nickel finish is virtually complete. The blue on the trigger guard is 98%. The case colors are vibrant. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The mother of pearl grips are in fine condition. The bore is excellent. The action on this revolver is perfect. The original holster is in near fine condition. Here is something you don’t see every day!
