EXC Antique S&W .32 Safety Hammerless Revolver
First Model w Archive Letter to Philadelphia!
Here we present a Smith & Wesson First Model .32 Safety Hammerless Revolver with Factory Letter, made circa 1894 in Springfield, Massachusetts. These were also known as the “New Departure” or the “Lemon Squeezer”, the latter due to the safety bar in the backstrap. It was designed to meet the defensive needs of citizens and law enforcement in the late 19th Century. This is a top break design with an automatic ejector, hammerless design and grip safety. These features made it great for pocket carry. According to the accompanying factory letter, this handgun was shipped from the factory in Springfield, Massachusetts on August 15, 1894 and delivered to E.K. Tryon Co., Philadelphia, PA.
The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH&WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS U.S.A. PAT’D FEBY/20.77. DEC.18.77.MAY.11.80.SEPT.11.93.OCT.2.85. TWO AUG.4.85”.
The overall condition is excellent. The original nickel, blue, and case colored finishes are virtually complete. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers match. The bore is clear and bright with strong rifling. The hard rubber grips are in excellent condition. The action on this revolver is excellent. You would be hard pressed to find a better example!
