Belgian Antique VELODOG Style Pocket Revolver
Folding Trigger Pocket Revolver in 6mm
Here we present a Velodog-style Revolver, made circa 1898 in Liege, Belgium. The Velodog was a French design by Charles-François Galand specifically made for carry by cyclists to defend themselves against dogs. In fact, the name “Velodog” combines the word “Velocipede” or bicycle with “Dog”. There were certainly cartridges loaded with conventional projectiles but some were loaded with less than lethal payloads like wood or even cayenne pepper.
This one was made by Emile Fraipont in Liege, Belgium. His initials are found on the left side of the frame. He was an active gunmaker between 1903 and 1927. This revolver features a small size and folding trigger. This one has an exposed hammer. Liege proof marks are located on the right sight of the frame and on the back of the cylinder.
Overall condition is very good. Original blue remains inside the cylinder flutes. The markings are clear and legible. The grips are in good condition. The bore is sharply rifled and clean. The action is excellent. Here is an interesting little revolver for self-protection of bikers against dogs!
