Description:
#3638 Remington Rolling Block military rifled-musket, 32”x50/70CF, New York State contract with safety notch and the New York States distinctive high-spur hammer, and complete military configuration. Action is smooth and tight and this rifle, being what appears to have been a Regimental Target Rifle, has an excellent bore, about a 9+ on a scale of 10 …..and it has been fitted with the VERY accurate military Model 1884 Buffington rear sight which has both elevation and windage capabilities. The exterior is smooth light silvery metal on the barrel with some staining, and a grey-brown faded case hardening on the receiver. It has some light pitting on the trigger bow and front two barrel bands. Wood is VG+ and has a Regimental “Cross” on the buttstock (see photos) and just the usual minor lights and bruises elsewhere. It has no federal cartouches that I can see, so most likely this was originally a state or militia purchase and used in either training or (more likely) military tournaments. VG/VG+ $1575
