Description:
This is a beautiful all-original and numbers matching Nazi P-38 brought to the States as a war trophy by a returning World War 2 veteran. This Mauser made example was made in 1943 and is coded with their war time assigned maker code "BYF" and 2-digit date code "43". The original factory finish is beautiful and rates a conservative 98%+. The only finish wear is visible under very close inspection only and is on the leading high edges of the front of the slide and just a touch on the leading edge of the front sight band. As you can see in the pictures, the grip straps look like-new as does the factory finish on the rest of this P-38. The internals on this gun are just as clean as the exterior except for the bore. The bore shows really strong rifling but also some scattered light pitting, likely the result of shooting some corrosive ammo thru it and not carefully cleaning the bore immediately afterwards. This is the only negative that could be said about this pistol and it is not anything major. The original black Bakelite grips are in excellent condition and free from cracks or repairs. They still have an attractive glossy appearance to them and show no wear whatsoever, just a few tiny handling marks. This Mauser P-38 comes with one original and proper magazine that is in superb condition like the pistol. It is a 8-round magazine with beautiful original blue finish and the proper Waffenamt for Mauser, WaA135. This Nazi pistol is in perfect working order, everything works 100% like the day it left the factory. All of the parts that should be numbered are factory numbered, matching, and 100% original. The slide is tight on the frame with no play, and it works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly. All of the controls work as they were designed to, including the combination safety/de-cocker lever mounted on the slide. It is obvious that this gun has been a cherished piece of history to the original G.I. who captured it and brought it the U.S., and it has been very well cared for and stored properly ever since. If you have been looking for a super nice and all-original Nazi P-38 for your collection this BYF43 would be a great choice. It would be extremely hard to find a better example than this one! All-original P-38s that are this clean keep going up in value every year and are harder and harder to find.
