WWII Mauser "byf 41" RUSSIAN CAPTURE P.08 Luger
Nazi German Luger Pistol Captured by Soviet Russians
Here we present a World War II “byf 41” Code P.08 Luger Pistol, made in 1941 by Mauser in Oberndorf, German. This pistol would have been used by a German soldier throughout WWII, before being captured by the Russians. The Soviet capture trademark “X” is found on the chamber. These captured pistols are frequently refinished with all parts blued, like this one.
This pistol is year dated “41” on the chamber. The secret Mauser manufacturer code “byf” is located on the toggle. The model designation “P.08” is located on the left side of the frame, just in front of the safety. The right side of the frame bears the Nazi German proof and acceptance marks from inspection like “Eagle/655”. The underside of the barrel bears the importer’s mark.
The overall condition is very good. This gun was reblued and nearly all of it remains. The markings are clear. The serial numbers match, with the exception of the grips and magazine. The walnut grips show quite a bit of use but are solid overall. The bore is fair with a heavy frosting. The action is excellent.
