Description:
A.H. Fox BE 12 Gauge Shotgun
6 3/4 lbs. W/ 30" KRUPP BARRELS!

General Specs: Fox, Year 1908, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 13oz, Side-by-Side
Serial Number: 14595

Certain guns just make an impression.  Finding a vintage American double in 12 gauge that weighs just 6lbs. 13oz. is a start.  Vintage American double shotguns usually weigh around 7 1/2lbs., with a 7lb. gun considered a nice light field gun.  I do see a handful of 12ga. guns that weigh 6 3/4lbs. every year, but they usually have short barrels.  Finding a Fox BE Grade 12ga. with 30” number 2 weight Krupp Steel barrels weighing in as a “lightweight” is very unusual.  Walking all day for upland birds with a 12ga. that weighs the same as most 16ga. guns is a real delight and a huge advantage in choices of shells and firepower if so needed.  The engraving on this gun is exceptionally fine and clear, with a great deal of fine English scroll...much better than other early B engraved guns I have seen.  This fine Fox, sn14595 built in 1908, has all the things you would want in your next Fox gun; great stock dimensions with 14” LOP to the factory butt plate, excellent screws and wood-to-metal-fit, solid wood with no oil soaking or cracks, mirror shiny bores that have not been altered (factory bore diameter and wall thickness…chambers have been extended to 2 ¾”), perfect mechanics, and overall good looks.  There just isn’t any doubt in my mind that the early A.H. Fox guns were the best of them all.  The internal parts are highly polished by the factory just as they did on their high-grade guns.  Ansley was still at the helm and everything had to live up to “The Finest Gun in the World” slogan.  The wood is original to the gun and is better than most B Grades you will ever see.  The Fox B Grade was the first model to be phased out in 1918, so there are not a lot of them out there, especially with ejectors.  With the great stock dimensions, light weight, and quick pointing characteristics this is a gun you will cherish in the field and at traps for decades.  The fact that it will increase in value as you enjoy its use is a real bonus.
