Winchester Model 1894 30-30 US Martially Marked. A rare Winchester indeed. The US Government Ordnance Department ordered 1800 of these from Winchester in 1917 during the First World War. They were to be used, depending on who you read, for the protection of Defense Plants and our Northern and Southern Boarders and for the defense of our forests in Washington State because lumber was important to the war effort. You can read about the US Marked Winchesters in the book, "The Winchester", by George Madis, pages 435-436. Another source of information is, "US Infantry Weapons of the First World War", by Bruce N. Canfield, pages 116-118-130. As for value, it's all about rarity and condition as you all know. This Saddle Ring Carbine is in fine condition relative to what it is and it is over 100 years old. It still has most of the original bluing except on the receiver that looks to me like an old cold blue turning to a plum patina. The wood has been sanded and refinished. This one does not have a letter but IT WILL LETTER because it is the real deal. Please see all of the photos included and contact me with any questions.
