Description:
This is the quintessential deer hunting rifle. Marlin rifles have probably been used to hunt more deer than any other rifle, with the possible exception of the Winchester ’94. The Marlin 336 has been around since 1948, but the original Model 1936 and Model 36 go as far back as 1936 and 1937 respectively. According to the first two digits of the serial number, this rifle was produced in 1975. A good source of information on Marlin serial numbers can be found here: ://gunvaluesboard/marlin-serial-numbers-dates-of-manufacture-1664.html. The Model 336C uses a 20” micro-groove barrel. The rifle also features a finely made wood stock and forend. Another characteristic worth noting is the “JM” on the barrel, indicating that this a true Marlin rather than the newer “Remlins” as the newer rifles have been nicknamed since Remington acquired Marlin in 2008. This rifle has a few dings here and there, and some minor pitting, but that is to be expected from a deer rifle that has been carried through the woods for many years. The rifle is chambered for the classic .35 Remington. It was introduced in 1906. I have experience with the round via the Remington Model 81 semi-auto and the Model 141 Pump-action rifle. It is a pleasant round to shoot and is very accurate out to 100-150 yards when hunting in the woods. It popular for hunting deer and elk and is effective for defense against black bear. The Remington has an advantage over the .30-30 in that it uses a 200gr bullet (vs 170gr for the .30-30) with a larger frontal area which translates into a more effective transfer of energy when impacting the target. The Marlin 336 is popular in both the .35 Remington and the .30-30 but I highly recommend the .35. The 336C is a well-built rifle and is perfectly suited for those needing an accurate deer rifle.
