Description:
This is the real deal, NOT a cut down cavalry musketoon! Pattern called the "Type 1" with brass furniture and one piece trigger guard. Complete and original except for a decent repro swivel bar, which will work fine until a real one turns up. This gun is from a private contractor "Bernady a St Etienne." As such, the only markings are the signature on the lockplate and four cut marks on all the brass and inside the lock cavity, indicating they were matched when made. The original ramrod has the stamp of Guichard from the government arsenal at St Etienne and retains about 20% of its original bluing. As for defects, there is a long crack in the forestock that has been stabilized internally, and some other cracks that are mostly visible internally. The wood has a few plugged holes where somebody added sling swivels. For some reason the pan was replaced, which was not done very well. The replacement is an original. The tumbler bridle is cracked but intact. The action works fine but I would not flash it with the crack in the bridle. A very rare weapon in above average condition.
