#13357, Westley Richards, 170 New Bond St, London: An Early & True Anson & Deeley Westley Richards Trademark Boxlock 12 Bore Made in 1880 for Arthur W. Hall, The joint patent #1756 of May 11, 1875 by John Deeley & William Anson for an action that uses the leverage of the barrels to cock the locks when opening which eliminated the outside hammers, This invention is perhaps the best known of all that came out of the Westley factory, It now has modern 30" extractor barrels with Model "C" Bolting Dolls Head & Top Lever Third Bite, This is patent #2506 of 1862 for the dolls head barrel extension which is considered one of the strongest types of locking, The 30" barrels are modern sleeved by Kirk Merrington in March of 1993, Merrington was formerly with Churchill in England, They are .733 .040 & .040" (Full & Full), 2 3/4" chambers, Rounded action body, Double triggers, Splinter forend with a Deeley & Edge release, Open pistol grip stock at 14 1/2 x 1 13/16 x 3 1/8" over a checkered but with steel heel & toe plates, Slight cast-off for the right hand, Game gun weight at 7 lbs. 1 oz., 85% coverage of period scroll engraving that is very well done and remains almost as sharp as the day it was cut, Very nice wood with excellent contrast, Unbelievable how solid this wood is for a gun of this age, No case colors remain, The barrel blue after the sleeving is now at 100%, The properly re-oiled stock & forend is at 98-99%, The checkering at 98%, The barrels are like new, The barrel striking is excellent, The barrels are on face with excellent bite remaining, It is cased in the original oak & Leather trunk with 3 original trade labels that remain in very nice condition, It has a neat front bead that is inset into the top rib, The action flats are marked "Anson & Deeley's Patent 1478" & Patent February 1, 1876. The top of the breech is engraved "Westley Richards Patent". The original trunk has "Arthur W. Hall" embossed on the lid and the nickel silver stock escutcheon has "Arthur W. Hall 1881". This remains a very solid game gun with a modern set of barrels for many more years of extended shooting.
