ANTIQUE Imperial Russian MOSIN-NAGANT 1891 Rifle
Finnish Capture Marked Rifle Made 1895
Here we present an antique Imperial Russian Mosin-Nagant Model 1891 Rifle, manufactured in 1895 by the Tula Arsenal in Russia. This was the original Mosin-Nagant Rifle design. This one was an early example with a hexagonal receiver, made only 4 years after the rifle was adopted. This rifle might have seen fighting during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), the Russian Revolution of 1905 (1905-07), World War I (1914-18), Russian Civil War (1917-1922), Finnish Civil War (1918), and the Winter War with Finland (1939-40).
In addition to the chamber markings, the rifle is marked “SA” inside a box, which is a Finnish capture mark. The chamber is dated “1895”. Arsenal marking is from Tula.
The overall condition is very good. The original blue finish is strong with about 70% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The serial numbers on the chamber and bolt match, but there are a couple different numbers on the magazine and butt plate. The bore is in very good shape with strong rifling. The stock is smooth and solid. The action on this rifle is excellent. Here is a scarce antique (pre-1899) version of the legendary Mosin-Nagant!
